Why Muslim Greet Salam ?
Why Muslims say As-Salaam Alaykum?
The prophet Mohammed (pbuh) taught Spreading salaam (Greeting of peace) is a part of Eeman (Faith).
What is the best thing in Islam? Prophet(pbuh) said:" Feeding others and giving the greeting of Salaam(peace) to those whom you know and those whom you don't know". Prophet explained that this Salaam spreads love and brotherhood.
Prophet(pbuh) said: "You will not enter paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love One Another".
Shall I not tell you about you something which, if you do it, you will love one another? Spread salaam amongst yourselves..
The Prophet(pbuh) also Explained the reward earned by one who says salaam.
A man passed by the Messenger of Allah while he was sitting with some others and said "As-Salaam Alaykum(peace be upon you)". The prophet(pbuh) said he will have Ten Hasanaat (Rewards), Another man passed by and said "As-Salaam Alaykum Wa Rahmat-Allah(peace be upon you and mercy of Allah)", Prophet(pbuh) said he have 20 rewards, and Another man passed by and said As-Salaam Alaykum Wa Rahmat-Allah Wa Barakaatuhu(peace be upon you and mercy of Allah and his blessings)" Prophet(pbuh) said he will have 30 rewards.
The Prophet(pbuh) Commanded as to return the salaam and made it a right and duty.
The Prophet(pbuh) said : The Muslims has five Rights over a fellow Muslim:
1. He should return his Salaam,
2.Visit him when he is sick,
3.Attend his funeral,
4.Accept his invitation,
5.Pray for Mercy for him (Say Yarhamuk Allah) when he sneezes.
The Prophet(pbuh) told us that the one who is closest to Allah is the one who will greet Salaam(peace).
People Asked "O Messenger of Allah" "when two people meet each other who should say salaam first? then Prophet(pbuh) said The one who is closest to Allah will greet first".
